چکیده

internal standard (leucinol) was added. Separation was performed on a C18 Zorbax (Agilent Technologies) column [15 3 0.46 cm (i.d.)] using the following mobile phase: 450 mL/L acetonitrile in sodium acetate buffer (0.5 g/L) adjusted to a final pH of 6.1 with glacial acetic acid. The flow rate was 1.2 mL/min. The wavelengths for excitation and emission were 338 and 445 nm, respectively. The patients’ urine samples were found to contain 887 and 1340 mg/L heptaminol, respectively. Lastly, heptaminol was added to drug-free urine specimens to determine the response of the AxSYM FPIA assay for amphetamines. The results are presented Table 1. Because the cutoff concentration was 500 mg/L, urine specimens were positive for heptaminol concentrations $750 000 mg/L. In conclusion, heptaminol exhibits cross-reactivity (;0.06%) with the AxSYM FPIA Amphetamine/Methamphetamine II assay, but gives false-positive results only with high urine concentrations of heptaminol.

Major Odorants Released as Urinary Volatiles by Urinary Incontinent Patients

In this study, volatile urinary components were collected using three different types of samples from patients suffering from urinary incontinence (UI): (1) urine (A); (2) urine + non-used pad (B); and (3) urine + used pad (C). In addition, urine + non-used pad (D) samples from non-patients were also collected as a reference. The collection of urinary volatiles was conducted with the aid of a g...

The urinary excretion of mercapturic acids after administration of bromobenzene and 3,4-benzpyrene.

In a previous communication (1) it was shown that the rat forms some mercapturic acid from simultaneously administered radioactive i@-cystine and bromobenzene. The major portion of the excreted mercapturic acid was derived from un labeled tissue sulfur compounds. On the other hand, no evidence could be found for the excretion of a labeled conjugate from 3,4-benzpyrene and L-cystine. In addition...

Sulfur in human nutrition and applications in medicine.

Because the role of elemental sulfur in human nutrition has not been studied extensively, it is the purpose of this article to emphasize the importance of this element in humans and discuss the therapeutic applications of sulfur compounds in medicine. Sulfur is the sixth most abundant macromineral in breast milk and the third most abundant mineral based on percentage of total body weight. The s...

P. brasiliensis Virulence Is Affected by SconC, the Negative Regulator of Inorganic Sulfur Assimilation

Conidia/mycelium-to-yeast transition of Paracoccidioidesbrasiliensis is a critical step for the establishment of paracoccidioidomycosis, a systemic mycosis endemic in Latin America. Thus, knowledge of the factors that mediate this transition is of major importance for the design of intervention strategies. So far, the only known pre-requisites for the accomplishment of the morphological transit...

Effects of disulfiram, diethyldithiocarbamate, bisethylxanthogen, and benzyl isothiocyanate on glutathione transferase activities in mouse organs.

Four sulfur compounds known to inhibit tumorigenic effects of chemical carcinogens were administered to female CD-1 mice at 0.5% of the diet for 14 days, and their effects on cytosolic glutathione transferase (EC 2.5.1.18) specific activities were examined in liver, lung, kidney, urinary bladder, forestomach, proximal small intestine, and colon. Disulfiram, sodium diethyldithiocarbamate, biseth...
